Google’s New AI Will Check Your Grammar in Google Docs

Google today announced that its artificial intelligence-powered grammar checker will now be a native feature in Google Docs for all users of G Suite, its corporate suite of web tools and services. The grammar checker, which Google announced last July, is powered by machine translation, which is the same subset of AI tools that enable software’s natural language processing capabilities and the ability to translate text from one language into another.

Each and every year, we learn about the new applications of artificial intelligence and how it is going to impact our daily lives. Google has always been at the forefront of making the conversation surrounding AI as practical as possible, and its newest AI which is being incorporated into Google Docs is the latest example of how an intelligence such as this can be used to improve various aspects of our routines in ways we would never have imagined before.

Unfortunately, the feature is still restricted to business users. But the expansion to all G Suite customers and having it turned on by default in Google Docs is a good indication that the company is prepping the grammar checker for a wider consumer release at some point in the future.

While most smartphones rely on some kind of software-assisted digital zoom to take far-reaching shots, digital zoom is the ugly cousin of optical zoom because you can’t just enhance the zoom in an image and expect to see new detail that wasn’t originally captured.

OPPO provide further improvement, OPPO also introduced Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) on both the main camera and the telephoto lens to achieve higher, anti-shake accuracy, the company said.

Oppo was keen to show off examples of its super zoom tech. The images it shared look mighty impressive but we’re yet to get our hands on a prototype device to see for ourselves.

Camera technology is always a major focus for smartphone makers, but perhaps more than any other manufacturer, Oppo has consistently made camera tech the focus of its devices and subsequent marketing.

It appears to have most of the same specifications as the existing Mi Mix 3, but Xiaomi has opted to move to the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor inside, alongside Qualcomm’s X50 5G modem.

Xiaomi also has a fingerprint sensor at the rear so you don’t have to rely on having to slide out the cameras to unlock it with your face.

Although no official invitation has been sent out neither has the company released an official teaser to that effect, a newspaper and mobile comuntiy containing the launch details was spotted recently

The Zenfone 6 has featured in a couple of leaks in the past, including renders showing the front and back. The device is expected to pack a triple-rear camera setup but we are not so sure about that. We expect more details on the specs and design to emerge in the coming days before the May 14 launch date.

The advert was spotted inside the magazine that comes with the press passes for the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 holding in Barcelona, Spain. The ad has the caption “Defy Ordinary” which perhaps refers to the design. The ad also teases the design, quite vaguely but enough to suggest that the device may ditch the notch design for a notch-less design which could see it abandoning the selfie camera. Recently leaked live photos of the Zenfone 6 seem to confirm this. Such design will see the Zenfone 6 come with ultra-thin bezels.

In October 2018, Google announced new app developer policy, which asked programmers to submit Permissions Declaration Form with 90 days as to why they need access to user's sensitive details such as phone SMS and call log details.

This was in response to the emergence of adware and malware-ridden apps in Play Store, which they used to resemble as utility of the apps but never performed the functions as advertised and also there was no need for access to personal details of and acess calls and location of the user.

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a fingerprint authentication feature to protect its users' chats from being seen by others. The authentication, once enabled, will be required for users to open the app. The Facebook-owned instant messaging service was recently reported to bring a similar feature to iPhone as well, supporting two biometric authentication methods - both Face ID and Touch ID. It appears this won't be limited to iPhone, and users on Android will get fingerprint authentication, but no facial recognition based authentication, thanks to the lack of a widely used standard on the platform.

According to WABetaInfo, a fan site that tests new WhatsApp features early, the feature is current under development, and disabled by default in the Android 2.19.3 beta version.

"After working to implement Face ID and Touch ID features on iOS (that aren't available yet for development reasons), WhatsApp has finally started to work on the Authentication feature on Android, using your Fingerprint!" said the report on Tuesday.

Xiaomi Mi 8 SE, Mi 8 Screen Fingerprint Edition and the recently launched Mi Mix 3 will get Android Pie based update in Q4 2018.

Xiaomi has revealed a list of smartphones that will get Android 9.0 Pie or Android Oreo update in Q4 this year. The list first spotted by GsmArena was posted by the company in its ‘Chinese-language’ forum.

Xiaomi has published a list of devices that will receive the beta version of Android Oreo or Android Pie and the stable version in Q4, 2018. As per the list, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, Redmi 5A, Redmi 5 Plus and Redmi 5X will get Android Oreo update in the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, the devices that will get Android Pie-based update including Mi 8 SE, Mi 8 Screen Fingerprint Edition, and the recently launched Mi Mix 3 as well.

Xiaomi in the forum mentioned that the devices that have received two major updates or have been updated recently will not get Android Pie. The listing also cited that Xiaomi Mi 5S Plus Oreo update was suspended due to unspecified software issue.

While Xiaomi has revealed the list of smartphones running on MIUI China ROM eligible for Android Pie or Android Oreo update, it is still unclear whether MIUI Global ROM users will get the software upgrade on their devices.

The Chinese handset maker recently rolled out MIUI 10 based Android 9 Pie update for the Mi Mix 2S. The update brought camera improvements, revamped ‘Recents’ menu, full-screen gesture support, optimised system performance, accent colour customisations etc. Besides Mi Mix 2S, Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer edition and Mi Max 3 are also said to receive Android Pie update.

How to enable the Google Phone app’s new Dark Theme [Root]

Since the release of the new Material Theming Tools, Google has been updating each of their first-party apps with their own Google Material Theme design. A few of the apps have even received an official dark theme! Android Messages and YouTube already have one, and soon it’ll be time for the Google Phone app to get one. We heard that the stock dialer app on Pixel and Android One devices would be getting this update a month ago. Now, Google Phone version 25 started rolling out on the beta channel recently, and it’s the first version with a dark theme that isn’t semi-broken. Thus, we’re finally able to share with you the instructions on how to enable it. You will need root for this tutorial as messing with shared preference files requires root access. With that out of the way, let’s get started.

1. Make sure you are rooted and have the latest version of the app, Google Phone 25, installed. You can root your device by finding the right links here. To join the beta channel of the Google Phone app, head to the Google Play Store listing and look for the beta option. You can also download the APK from here and sideload it manually.
2. Download any root-enabled file explorer like FX File Explorer or MiXplorer.
3. Open the explorer and navigate to the root directory from the left-side navigation menu.
4. Navigate to /data/data/com.google.android.dialer/shared_prefs and look for the file named dialer_phenotype_flags.xml
   
5. Look for G__enable_dark_mode_settings and change the value from ‘false’ to ‘true’. You can use the Find feature in the text editor.
   
6. Look for __data_rollout__DarkMode.EnableDarkModeRollout__launched__ and change the string from ‘false’ to ‘true’.
   
7. Save the file by tapping the save icon at the top
   
8. Close the editor/file manager and open the Google Phone app.
9. Tap on the three dots menu at the top right corner and head to Settings > Display options

You’ll now see a Dark theme option, enable it.

Unfortunately, the Google Contacts app has not yet been updated with the dark theme yet. That means you’ll still see light-colored cards in the Google Phone app when you tap on any contact card. We already have an idea on how to enable the dark theme in Google Contacts, but the actual theme isn’t ready yet so we’ll have to wait for an updated beta APK.
